Priyansh Arya Bowled On 199 As Ranji Trophy Round Two Begins

Priyansh Arya was bowled for 199 on the opening day of Ranji Trophy round two. He finished one short of a double hundred in his third first-class match. Delhi closed on 381 for 4 against Gujarat. Ayush Badoni was unbeaten on 115. Arya hit 24 fours. Manan Hingrajia got through him with Delhi on 376 for 4.

It was the innings of a long day. Nineteen matches were scheduled. Rinku Singh made 118 not out for Uttar Pradesh. Shubman Gill, back with Punjab before the New Zealand tour, lasted five balls.

Badoni joins in as Delhi pass 380

Arya has spent two IPL seasons being filed as a white-ball hitter. This was his third first-class match. Wisden logged the 199 as a 220-ball innings, which is a different kind of day's work from the one his reputation suggests. Badoni reached his hundred after the opener had gone and was 115 not out at the close.

Hingrajia's breakthrough was Gujarat's fourth wicket of the day. Delhi had 84 overs and lost four.

Rinku Singh answers with 118

Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 202 and Rinku carried the innings, finishing unbeaten on 118. Nobody else got near him. Goa's Yash Kasvankar took five wickets and closed the innings down, then Goa reached the close without loss.

Rinku has recently been out of India's T20I side. A hundred in a total of 202 is the clearest reply available to a domestic batter. Kasvankar's five wickets took care of the rest of the order.

Gill lasts five balls for Punjab

Gill was bowled for 1 by Ajay Mandal. He had been announced for this fixture as red-ball preparation before the New Zealand tour, which makes five balls a thin return on the trip. Uday Saharan repaired the innings with a century. Wisden's round-up put Punjab at 269 for 4 at the close.

Chhattisgarh took four wickets and then stalled. Saharan was still in at the close.

Low totals in the other groups

Bowlers had the better of most other venues. Himachal Pradesh were dismissed for 140 with Tushar Deshpande taking four. Mumbai reached 107 for 2 in reply, Musheer Khan and Siddhesh Lad both unbeaten. Hyderabad made 275 against Andhra. The leading day-one positions:

  • Delhi 381 for 4 against Gujarat
  • Hyderabad 275 all out against Andhra
  • Uttar Pradesh 202 all out against Goa
  • Himachal Pradesh 140 all out, Mumbai 107 for 2

Round two runs to Wednesday. Delhi start Monday with 381 on the board and six wickets in hand, the strongest position any side reached on day one. Gujarat will be bowling at Badoni on a surface that has already given them four wickets in 84 overs.

Elsewhere the pattern was first innings folding inside a day. Bihar, Puducherry, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chandigarh were all bowled out for under 180, according to Wisden's round-up. Delhi's 381 for 4 sits a long way outside that.
