IPL 2027 Auction Reported For December 16 In Goa

The IPL 2027 auction is being reported for December 16 in Goa, with franchises asked to confirm how many people they will send. The request reached all 10 teams by text message rather than by letter, according to IANS. The BCCI has issued no formal notice. Neither the date nor the venue is confirmed.

If it holds, it would be the first IPL auction staged in Goa. Reports put the team briefing on December 15, the day before, with delegations housed at a hotel in the state. A formal email to franchise owners and chief executives has not gone out.

The message that reached the franchises

What went out was a request for headcounts. The Statesman reported on Saturday that the board had sent a WhatsApp text to representatives of all 10 teams, and that no formal notice had followed it. A date becomes firm when the board circulates one in writing. That has not happened.

Retention lists come first

Before any of this, the franchises owe the board their paperwork. Final retained and released player lists are expected by the middle of November. The squads are shaped by that deadline more than by the auction itself. A mini auction turns on who is let go in the four weeks before it.

Teams have already begun moving players. Crickslab reported trades earlier this month that sent Natarajan back to Sunrisers Hyderabad and Ansari to Delhi. More will follow before the lists close.

A clash in the calendar

December 16 already carries a fixture. India are scheduled to play Sri Lanka in the second ODI of their series at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The venue for the opening match on December 13 has not been settled either. Board officials and broadcasters would be committed to both events on the same day.

The dates currently in play:

  • Mid-November: retained and released lists due from all 10 franchises
  • December 13: India v Sri Lanka, first ODI, venue not finalised
  • December 15: franchise briefing, reported
  • December 16: mini auction in Goa, reported, and India v Sri Lanka second ODI in Bengaluru

The board postponed a stakeholders meeting earlier this month without naming a new date, so the governance calendar around the league has already slipped once this season. Franchises will want the notice in writing before they book anything.
