India Tour Of Bangladesh In Doubt As BCB Weighs Moving Age-Group Trophy

India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh is in doubt again. Bangladesh Cricket Board president Tamim Iqbal says the dates may move and that talks with the BCCI are still running. The squad is due in Dhaka on 28 August. The first ODI is pencilled in for 1 September. That leaves the host board a matter of days to lock down a six-match series it has already rearranged once.

Almost nothing about the tour is settled beyond the calendar slot. The BCB confirmed three ODIs and three T20Is in January as part of its 2026 home season. Venues for those six matches have still not been published. The BCCI has made no public confirmation that the squad will travel.

The January schedule

Venue allocation was left to be confirmed later. It never followed. The tour was originally meant to be played in August 2025. The two boards agreed in July 2025 to push it back a full year.

Speaking about the current position, Tamim said the schedule remained fluid. "The dates may be shifted here or there," he said. He tied the sequencing to the senior series: "If the India series is locked and fixed, we will schedule it accordingly." His remarks were first reported by ESPNcricinfo.

The Mirpur booking

There is a concrete scheduling obstacle underneath the diplomacy. The Game Development Trophy is the BCB's age-group competition. It is booked into Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur from 28 August to 9 September. That window swallows the entire proposed ODI series and the first T20I. Tamim has indicated the age-group event could be shifted to the Bashundhara ground if the India series is confirmed. Confirmation first, then the schedule.

Moving it would take work. Grounds have to be re-allocated. Squads and officials have to be shifted. A competition schedule that district associations and academies have already planned around has to be rewritten.

No board does that on the chance a senior series might happen, which is what Tamim's ordering implies. Until the BCCI says yes, Mirpur stays booked for the juniors, and every day of silence makes a clean handover of the ground harder.

Relations between the boards

According to ESPNcricinfo, board relations have been strained by Kolkata Knight Riders withdrawing Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL. The same reporting cites Bangladesh's decision not to send a team to the T20 World Cup co-hosted by India. It also points to a recent thaw, including a visit by Tamim to India and a Bangladesh trip to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. None of that has produced a confirmed itinerary.

Signals to watch

Three things would signal the tour is on. A BCCI statement on travel. A published venue list. A revised Game Development Trophy schedule. None of the three has appeared. Watch the last one. It is the only step the BCB can take on its own, and it cannot be taken quietly.

If the age-group fixtures move off Mirpur in the next few days, the series is happening. If they do not, the September window is almost certainly gone. A tour first slated for August 2025 goes back into the queue for a third time.
