India Squad For West Indies: Auqib Nabi And Naman Dhir Get First Call

India have handed maiden ODI call-ups to two uncapped players for the West Indies white-ball tour. Jammu and Kashmir seamer Auqib Nabi and batter Naman Dhir are both in the 50-over group. The India squad for West Indies duty was confirmed by the BCCI senior men's selection committee. Shubman Gill captains the ODI side, with KL Rahul as his deputy. Shreyas Iyer leads the T20I group. Tilak Varma is his vice-captain.

Rishabh Pant misses both squads. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja all return to the 50-over side. Jadeja has not played an ODI since January, when India faced New Zealand. Ruturaj Gaikwad comes back after last appearing in the format against South Africa. The three ODIs run from 27 September to 3 October. Five T20Is follow between 6 and 17 October.

Nabi's 60-wicket season

Nabi is 29. He has bowled for Jammu and Kashmir since 2018. Last season he took 60 wickets in 10 matches and was named player of the tournament. His state won the Ranji Trophy for the first time. They beat Karnataka in the February final, posting 584 and 342 for 4 against 293. He has 156 first-class wickets in 41 matches. Delhi Capitals signed him for the 2026 IPL.

Dhir has not played senior international cricket either. Both were picked only for the ODIs.

Pant sent to the Irani Cup

Pant will captain Rest of India in the Irani Cup instead, with Sarfaraz Khan as vice-captain. The match runs from 1 to 5 October at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar. The opponent is Jammu and Kashmir, the reigning Ranji Trophy champions. Nabi will not be there. He is due in the India camp while his state hosts the fixture that crowned it.

News24 reports that Akash Deep, also named in the Rest of India group, must pass a fitness test before playing after a lower back stress injury.

Eight venues in three weeks

No venue is used twice. Guwahati and New Chandigarh both take a match inside the first week, which puts the ODI group on three flights in eight days. The T20I leg then moves north to south across five cities.

Asian Games overlap splits the group

Iyer also captains India at the Asian Games in Japan. That tournament runs into early October. The ODI series sits on top of it. India will therefore field two international sides at once, with the 50-over group at home and the T20I core in Nisshin. The home T20Is only start on 6 October.

Two changes have been made to the Asian Games party. Varun Chakaravarthy is out with a side strain and Vipraj Nigam replaces him. Nitish Kumar Reddy has been withdrawn from that squad and added to the ODI list. Jasprit Bumrah, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh and Sooryavanshi are all in Japan.

Selectors have therefore committed Sooryavanshi, Samson, Abhishek and Arshdeep to both the Asian Games and the home T20Is. Three days separate the two assignments.
