India Squad For New Zealand Tour Splits ODI Captaincy

India will carry two one-day captains to New Zealand. The India squad for the New Zealand tour, released by the BCCI on Friday, gives Shubman Gill the first three ODIs and Shreyas Iyer the last two. Gill also leads the two-match Test side. Jasprit Bumrah is named for the Tests only.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in both ODI squads. Kumar Kushagra gets a first India call-up. Ravindra Jadeja and Yashasvi Jaiswal are in the Test squad but absent from both one-day groups. The ODI series opens in Auckland on 4 November. The first Test starts in Wellington on 19 November.

The handover after the third ODI

Gill and KL Rahul leave the one-day leg once the third match in Hamilton is done, turning to Test preparation. Iyer is vice-captain for the opening three games. He takes the armband for the two matches in Mount Maunganui. Ishan Kishan becomes his deputy there and keeps wicket.

Rahul keeps wicket for the first three ODIs. Kishan is named in all five. The split hands India two settled leadership groups inside a single series.
