ICC Women's Champions Trophy 2027 Set For Mumbai And Vadodara

The inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy 2027 will be staged in Mumbai and Vadodara, the International Cricket Council has confirmed. Six teams contest the T20 tournament from 14 to 28 February 2027. The Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium share every fixture. India picked the event up after Sri Lanka, the original host, lost it.

Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka make up the field. Each side plays the other five. The top two meet in the final on 28 February.

Two grounds, fifteen days

A six-team round robin runs to 15 matches. Add the final and the tournament totals 16. Those 16 games fit inside a 15-day window, which leaves both venues carrying close to a match a day across the fortnight.

Splitting an ICC event across two grounds in two different states is a scheduling choice with consequences for both. Pitch rotation, floodlight availability, practice facilities and turnaround time between fixtures all sit on the same two curators rather than being spread across four or five host cities. The ICC has not yet published the fixture list, so the split between the two venues is still unknown.

India replaces Sri Lanka as host

The tournament was created as part of the ICC's 2024 to 2031 event cycle, and Sri Lanka were the designated host. The ICC Board assessed Bangladesh, India and South Africa as replacements before settling on India. The Free Press Journal reported that Sri Lanka lost the event after the ICC found government interference in Sri Lanka Cricket, and that the board is currently run by a transformation committee.

Sri Lanka still play. Losing hosting rights did not cost them their place in the six-team field.

India hold one global title and Australia the other. Both are in this field. So the 2027 event puts the two current world champions in the same 15-match round robin, with a single game between them deciding the head-to-head.

An annual slot on the women's calendar

ICC Chairman Jay Shah said the arrival of a marquee women's event every year gives the governing body a real opportunity to build momentum in the women's game. February 2027 is the first time the trophy has been played in the women's game at all.

For host associations the practical work starts now. Two venues, a February window and six touring squads means accreditation, broadcast build, pitch preparation and ticketing all run to a schedule set 18 months out. Fixtures and ticketing details are still to be announced.
