ICC Player Of The Month Nominees For August: Barnett Joins Thailand Pair

All three nominees for the ICC Player of the Month award in the women's category for August 2026 come from Associate Members. Thailand supply two of them. Suleeporn Laomi and Nannapat Koncharoenkai share the shortlist with Lucy Barnett of the Isle of Man. The ICC published both the women's and men's lists on Thursday.
Barnett is the first Isle of Man cricketer to reach the shortlist, the ICC said. She scored 257 runs across four T20 internationals in August at an average of 128.50 and a strike rate of 178.47. She also took four wickets with her off-spin. The Isle of Man are an Associate Member of the ICC, as are Thailand.
Barnett's month in Romania
The runs came at the 2026 Continental Cup, staged in Romania. Her Isle of Man side reached the final against Turkey and finished runners-up. Barnett was named the tournament's most valuable player. Her 123 came from 64 balls against Norway. She made 71 against the hosts and 59 in the final.
Thailand's pair on the same list
Laomi bowled through two formats in August. She took six wickets in four T20 internationals at an economy rate of 5.40 and an average of 13.50. In the ODI series against Papua New Guinea she added four more at 3.38 an over, including three for 27 in the final match of a 3-0 sweep. Against India in the Women's Asia Cup she returned three for 26. That was the pick of her month.
Koncharoenkai did the scoring. She made 144 runs in four T20 internationals at 36.00, striking at 86.22. Her ODI return was 121 runs at 40.33. At the Asia Cup she made 21 against Hong Kong and 41 against India. Thailand won the Papua New Guinea ODI series 3-0.
The men's three
The men's shortlist is drawn entirely from the World Test Championship.
- Sonal Dinusha of Sri Lanka: 420 runs at 140.00 against India, with a hundred and 84 at Galle, then 103 and an unbeaten 133 at Colombo.
- Ollie Robinson of England: 16 wickets at 7.18 against Pakistan, with 8 for 80 in the first Test and 8 for 35 in the second.
- Hasan Mahmud of Bangladesh: 6 for 55 and 3 for 56 at Darwin, where Bangladesh won a Test in Australia for the first time.
Voting and the timetable
Winners are decided by a public vote combined with the ballot of the ICC Voting Academy. Manx Radio reported that voting closes at 10.30 on Monday 14 September. Both August awards follow that deadline. The men's award is settled the same way.
Robinson's two hauls left England 2-0 up against Pakistan. Dinusha's 420 runs came across two Tests. Mahmud's nine wickets at Darwin ended in a nine-wicket win for Bangladesh. Three series, three countries, one shortlist.
