England ODI Squad For Pakistan Tri-Series Rests Archer And Recalls Rashid

The England ODI squad for the Pakistan tri-series runs to 16 players. Harry Brook captains. Jofra Archer has been rested after a heavy summer. Jos Buttler is unavailable with the hamstring injury he picked up during the one day series against Sri Lanka. Adil Rashid and Sam Curran are both back from injury.
England join Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The 50 over tournament runs from 18 to 31 October. Rawalpindi stages the first half. Lahore takes the second half and the final.
Brook leads with Buttler still out
Brook keeps the job. Buttler missed the decider against Sri Lanka at the Oval with the same hamstring problem. He has not recovered in time. Archer sits out for workload management rather than injury. The England and Wales Cricket Board announced the squad on Thursday.
England won that Sri Lanka series 2-1. Tom Banton keeps his place. He made a maiden ODI hundred in the final match at the Oval.
Rashid and Curran come through injury
Rashid returns after a hand injury. Curran is back from a groin problem. Both missed part of the home summer. Their return restores two senior white ball options for subcontinental conditions. Rashid and Liam Dawson give the spin group two settled names, with Mason Crane a third.
Three names without an ODI cap
Three players are in an England one day squad for the first time. They are James Coles, Mason Crane and Henry Crocombe. Crane has one England Test to his name, from the 2018 Ashes. Coles and Crocombe both travelled with the group during the Sri Lanka series. Sonny Baker and Jordan Cox also stay in a squad with little one day mileage behind it.

Rawalpindi first, then Lahore

England open against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on 20 October. The two grounds split the tournament between them. Samaa reported that the top two sides in the table go through to the final. The Pakistan Cricket Board has already published its enclosure price ladder for the tournament, so tickets are priced before the squads land.
Fourteen days covers the whole tournament. That is a tight turnaround for three squads. England fly in with several players who have barely any one day international cricket behind them. Root and Rashid carry most of the experience. The tournament also feeds into England's planning for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, where they were drawn in Group B alongside South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
