England Beat Pakistan At Lord's By 194 Runs, Abbas Takes Nine

England beat Pakistan at Lord's by 194 runs on Sunday, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with one Test left. Ollie Robinson took eight wickets across the match. Set 389 to win, Pakistan were bowled out for 194 on the fourth day.

Abbas on the honours board

Abbas took nine wickets for 130 runs and still lost. His 5 for 57 bowled England out for 208 in 54.2 overs. It also put his name on the Lord's honours board for the first time, according to the Associated Press.

The spell was the best bowling of the match. It arrived too late to change it. Abbas sent down 22 overs for those figures, Geo News reported.

Runs were scarce for both sides

The match was over inside four of its five scheduled days. No innings in it reached 300. England's 290 was the largest of the four and it never looked comfortable. Jamie Smith made 61 and Jordan Cox 55, according to Yardbarker, and Abbas took 4 for 73.

Pakistan's 110 settled the arithmetic

England's 290 looked ordinary when it finished. Pakistan's reply of 110 changed that reading. The lead was 180 before England batted again, and 388 once they were done. Pakistan have now lost nine of their last 10 matches away from home, according to The Express Tribune. Their two totals of 110 and 194 were both smaller than either of England's. Shakeel's 97 was the highest individual score reported from either side in the match.

Birmingham on 9 September

The third Test starts on 9 September in Birmingham. England go there chasing 3-0. Joe Root spoke to the BBC afterwards. "It does feel good and fully deserved as well. The guys have been excellent. We had the worst of the conditions for most of the game," he said.

Root asked his side to keep the celebration measured. "It's hard to win Test matches, it's hard to win Test series, so enjoy it and celebrate it, but in a sensible, grown-up way," he said at the post-match press conference. The Express Tribune reported it was England's first series win since December 2024.

Pakistan have one match left to avoid a whitewash. They lost the first Test at Headingley by an innings, so Lord's was the game they had to win to keep the series open. Robinson has been the leading bowler in both. Abbas has his name on a board in the home dressing room. Pakistani outlets have reported squad changes before Birmingham. The board had not confirmed any of them at the time of writing.
