BCCI AGM 2026 Hands Selection Panel Decision To Office Bearers

The BCCI AGM 2026 ended without naming a senior men's selection committee, and handed the decision to the board's office bearers instead. The same authorisation covers the junior panel. Secretary Devajit Saikia said the appointments would follow later, which leaves chief selector Ajit Agarkar in post with his contract running down.

Agarkar's deal expires in October 2026. Nothing announced on Friday extended it towards the 2027 ODI World Cup, which Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia host. Selection work continues as normal in the meantime.

The wording of the resolution

The meeting passed an enabling resolution rather than a set of names. "An authorisation has been taken and we will decide about the selectors later," Saikia said. Mithun Manhas chaired as president. Arun Dhumal was reappointed to the IPL Governing Council.

The decision now sits with a smaller group that can act within days rather than with the full members gathered at the AGM. The general body will not vote on the names. Saikia did not give a date.

Agarkar's contract clock

October is close, so the office bearers are working to a short deadline. Agarkar's current deal does not reach the 2027 World Cup.

Several Indian outlets, among them The Statesman and CricTracker, report that Parthiv Patel is a contender should the board decide against retaining Agarkar. Patel is an assistant coach at Gujarat Titans. The board announced no shortlist.

Andaman and Nicobar left waiting

For associations watching the agenda rather than the headlines, the AGM produced four items of substance:

• Office bearers authorised to constitute both the senior and junior men's selection committees.
• The Andaman and Nicobar Islands affiliate membership application deferred over unresolved legal issues.
• Fee increases approved for domestic umpires and match referees.
• Arun Dhumal reappointed to the IPL Governing Council.

Affiliate status is the step that brings an association inside the BCCI's domestic structure. A deferral on legal grounds keeps that door shut for another season at least. The board did not set a date to revisit the application.

More money for domestic officials

The fee rise for umpires and match referees is the quietest resolution on the list and the one with the widest reach. Domestic officiating in India covers the Ranji Trophy, the age-group tournaments and the women's domestic calendar. The pool of qualified officials has long been the constraint on expanding any of them. The board has not published the revised scale.

One item was not on the agenda at all. Reports of a venue change for a Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Ranchi were not taken up. CricTracker quoted Jharkhand State Cricket Association secretary Saurabh Tiwary: "There is no change in the venue. If anybody has to write to the BCCI about it, it should be me and I have not written it."
