Australia Sweep Bangladesh 3-0 As Schutt Takes 4 For 16

Australia completed a 3-0 sweep of Bangladesh in the women's ODI series with an eight-wicket win at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Wednesday. Megan Schutt took 4 for 16. Bangladesh were bowled out for 172 in 49.5 overs. Australia needed 22.4 overs. They won with 164 balls to spare.

Annabel Sutherland finished on 74 not out. Ellyse Perry made 65 not out. Shorna Akter top-scored for Bangladesh with 54, and Sharmin Akhter made 50. Sutherland also took 2 for 25. Ash Gardner took 2 for 49.

Schutt's four wickets settle the third ODI

Schutt's ten overs cost 16 runs. Her economy rate was 1.60. Bangladesh batted almost the full fifty overs and still scored under 3.5 an over. Shorna Akter and Sharmin Akhter provided the only sustained resistance, and no other Bangladesh batter reached a half-century.

Mostary's 118 and a record stand

The scoreline hides what Bangladesh took home. Sobhana Mostary scored 118 in the second ODI. It is the highest individual score by a Bangladesh batter in women's one-day internationals. She also became the first Bangladesh player to reach three figures against Australia.

Three marks were set on the tour:

  • Sobhana Mostary's 118 in the second ODI, the highest score by a Bangladesh batter in women's one-day internationals
  • A 195-run stand between Mostary and captain Nigar Sultana Joty, Bangladesh's highest partnership in the format
  • Habiba Islam's 2 for 36 on debut in the first ODI, Bangladesh's best bowling figures of the tour

Two debutants given a bowl

Habiba Islam debuted in the first ODI. She took 2 for 36 from six overs, removing Georgia Voll and Beth Mooney. Those were Bangladesh's best figures of the tour. Disha Biswas came in for the final match. She dismissed Mooney, who was playing her 100th ODI, and finished with 1 for 40.

Captain Nigar Sultana Joty pointed to the newcomers afterwards. "We have seen a few young players do well," she said. "It was challenging for them, but they gave their 100 percent in the middle."

Bangladesh eighth in the Championship

The three defeats leave Bangladesh eighth in the ICC Women's Championship. They have one win from six matches. The Championship is the qualification route to the next 50-over World Cup, so the points carry weight beyond any single series. Australia took maximum points from the fixture.

New Zealand next in December

Bangladesh tour New Zealand next. The ODI leg against the White Ferns begins on 18 December. Those matches also carry Championship points. Bangladesh need them on current standings. Habiba Islam and Disha Biswas both took their first ODI wickets on this tour. Mostary leaves Australia holding her country's highest score in the format.
