Arafat Minhas Takes 6 For 40 And Makes 59 As Pakistan Win By 87

Arafat Minhas took 6 for 40 and made 59 as Pakistan beat England by 87 runs in the ODI tri-series at Rawalpindi on Tuesday. Pakistan posted 302 for 9 from their 50 overs. England were bowled out for 215 in 38.4 overs. Minhas was named player of the match. Pakistan have now won both their games in the series.
The 21-year-old bowls slow left-arm. He also reached his maiden ODI fifty in the same match, off 58 balls with nine fours.
Pakistan rebuild from 133 for 5
Gus Atkinson removed Fakhar Zaman with the first ball of the match. Pakistan were 133 for 5 after 27.3 overs. Hasan Nawaz then made 79 off 74 balls. Minhas gave him support and the innings turned.
AFP reported stands of 78 for the sixth wicket and 72 for the seventh. Faheem Ashraf closed with 39 off 26 balls. Sonny Baker was England's best bowler with 3 for 65. Atkinson took 2 for 35.
England's chase folds
Ben Duckett and Tom Banton opened with 91 inside 15 overs. England looked set. Then the innings came apart.
- Tom Banton 57 off 53 balls
- Ben Duckett 45 off 46 balls
- Joe Root 33 off 35 balls
- Sam Curran 27 off 39 balls
Minhas bowled Harry Brook for 5. Naseem Shah bowled Root with a ball that kept low. Haris Rauf finished with 2 for 32. AFP reported that England were 120 for 1 before losing their last nine wickets for 95 runs.
Sky Sports reported that Minhas took a wicket in each of England's final five dismissals, including Will Jacks and Adil Rashid off successive deliveries in the 39th over. He then ran out Atkinson to end the match.
A fifty and a six-for in the same match
The double is rare. Gulf News set it beside Shahid Afridi's 76 and 7 for 12 against the West Indies in 2013. Minhas now has two five-wicket hauls in a short ODI career.
His 5 for 32 against Australia on debut in May made him the first Pakistan bowler to take five wickets in a first ODI. He was named player of that series as well. Pakistan have spent two years looking for a frontline spinner who can bat at seven, and the answer turned up in his first summer.
Sri Lanka next at Rawalpindi
Shaheen Shah Afridi, the Pakistan captain, said: "As a team we have shown progress as we are looking to build toward next year's World Cup." He added: "The form of Arafat and the fast bowlers are good signs for us."
Harry Brook was blunt about the chase. "We could not put on partnerships and ended up on the wrong side," the England captain said.
Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 37 runs in the opening match on 18 October. AFP reported that England meet Sri Lanka in the third match at Rawalpindi on Thursday. England have played once and lost.
